Mattanja Boerdery
- Mattanja Boerdery was established in 1985 by Jannie Maritz (Snr). The farm evolved over the years to the business it is today. Operated by the family. Mattanja Boerdery strive to produce only the best products and produce. In a constantly evolving market, we are changing with the times to remain a producer of quality without compromise.
- Our beef is grass reared, hormone free, grain fed beef. (No growth hormones fed or injected) The cattle is reared in the field, in winter when there is not enough grass, they are fed grass that is planted on the farm, baled and stored for back up feed. The cattle will also graze on maize stalks after the harvest. Cattle fed in the above way will not have enough weight to be slaughtered economically, so for the last two week we feed them a formulated finisher to gain the required weight. (This is not a crammed, stress full environment for the animals, they can still move around in a large kraal.) Our cattle that has been slaughtered for the butchery, all grade A1/A2. We farm Brahman an Limousine, both these breeds as well as the Brahman/Limousine cross breeds produce a carcass that is lower in fat with more meat.
- During the past year we have been hard at work building a first class facility to house our sheep that will be reared to supply the best quality lamb to Mattanja Butchery.
